The New Orleans Hornets lost a key reserve Tuesday night when guard Courtney Alexander tore his right Achilles tendon in a preseason victory over the Orlando Magic.
Alexander landed awkwardly after taking a baseline jumper with 6 1/2 minutes left in the fourth quarter. He was helped off the court by two teammates. Ticketmaster
Hornets forward Robert Traylor also was injured, going down with a sprained right ankle.

Alexander averaged 7.9 points in 66 games last season. He also has played for
the Dallas Mavericks and Washington Wizards since being drafted 13th overall
in 2000 out of Fresno State. Ticketmaster
Alexander is expected to be re-evaluated Wednesday, when the Hornets return to New Orleans. If he misses a significant stretch, the Hornets will have to rely more heavily on free agent pickup Darrell Armstrong, who averaged 9.4 points a game for Orlando last season.
