Houston Rockets general manager Carroll Dawson, who drafted Chinese center Yao Ming with the first pick in last year's National Basketball Association Draft, has agreed to a contract extension.
Terms of Wednesday's deal were not disclosed. Dawson is entering his eighth season as general manager and 24th with the franchise.
He served as an assistant under four Rockets coaches - Del Harris (1980-83), Bill Fitch (1983-88), Don Chaney (1988-92) and Rudy Tomjanovich (1992-96). Ticketmaster
"He has such a great way of dealing with people and producing results," said owner Leslie Alexander. "Over the past few years, he has transformed an older team into one with great promise."
Dawson hired former New York Knicks coach Jeff Van Gundy to replace Tomjanovich following the 2002-03 season. Tomjanovich recently won a battle with bladder cancer, being declared cancer-free by doctors.
